It's been a cooler than normal summer so far here in NY and believe the whole northeast :'( . So far there has been a few 90+ days. A lot of high 70's and 80's. It's looks like it will be a subpar year for tomatoes for me. Have gotten some cherries but no regular ones yet. Was wondering if any one else is having to deal with this too.

Cooler than normal here too. I am getting some cherry tomatoes and a few beefsteaks so far, but the plants are smaller than usual with less fruit. I am having a horrible zucchini and pepper year too :(

We have about 80 plants this year. I think our weather has been normal temp and rain wise. We are also just south of you a bit. We have lots of tomatoes in the vines and the vines are 7 feet tall. We never get ripe tomatoes this early. We will in about a month and then there will be no end to them. I can't wait...

Same here. Too cool of night time temps. Nothing is ripening... not even in the greenhouse to speal of.

Netty our zukes were doing awful until we sprayed a fungicide. they didn't even look bad, but they just weren't producing anything. As soon as we sprayed we started getting them left and right.

I am still struggling trying to get some regular tomatoes even though the temperature here is always above 90°F and I thought our temperature is too hot. Now trying for cherries in some shade.

Carolyn - my zukes definitely need something ... they are getting that white haze. But they are also very small and the plants are struggling. What sort of fungicide do you use?

We use daconil as a broad spectrum fungicide.

My "4th of July" tomatoes aren't even ripe to speak of. I am calling them the "4th of August" tomatoes this year. We haven't hardly picked any of them yet.

On the other hand I am still picking broccoli.
I picked 6 heirloom tomatoes on Friday, too. (Which shocked me to no end that I picked those before the hybrids).

Tomato year was not good here either. Too much rain and cool temps. Ours developed some spots that I haven`t figured out yet. I had plenty,, but about half of normal harvest. Peppers not great either. Had squash and stuff out my ears as well as eggplant & cabbage.
KK are you growing the hybrids ? They do better at 90 degrees. That's the perfect temp for them. Heirlooms do not do as well.

Yea, cooler than usual here too. I thought when we had a summer blast last week that the Toms would ripen, but so far only ONE has. Geesh!
Not a good Tomato year here. Last year, I could not pick em fast enough!

I am planting both but the hybrids are still sleeping and Jerry suggested that I use a alarm clock :D

I'm only starting to see green cherry toms now. The plants are volunteers. I noticed my cherry toms are usually ready sooner than the beefsteak or plums. My beefsteaks died early in the season, and the rest of my garden has been taken over by the cherry volunteers.
I have been getting some cukes and some zucchini. I have a few watermelon that are currently softball sized and some acorn squash on their way. My peppers are just leafy plants, one of my yellow squash plants finally started growing one squash. The other is not doing a thing.
I have one blossom on my eggplant.

Broccoli are large, leafy green plants, but no heads at all. The kohlrabi is doing well. Lettuce is looking good.
The baby spinach is growing like crazy.

Judging from this, the season is showing itself as a cool season. My cool weather veggies are doing well, the winter squashes, lettuce, and spinach. The warm weather veggies are lazy; toms, yellow squash, eggplant.

I am already planning ahead for next year.

Not a good tomato season here either. Plants are small with very few leaves. A lot are getting sun burned. It has been way too humid. The whole garden is really struggling.

I was talking to hubby just now and all the plants I grew from seeds were kept inside for 2 weeks longer then the garden centers plants that we bought. Those were in in the cold weather earlier than mine. They are spindlie and stunted and have even died where the ones I grew are lush and beautiful. We thought it was how they grew them but now I wonder if it was the weather at such a tender time for them.

I didn't have a good tomato year, but then again I always seem to struggle with them. I'll be planting again soon for a fall garden, so hopefully they will do better then.
