Hmm I was just wondering if anyone had a simple idea for a pergola, it might be to late for one this year but next year I fully intend to have one and further extend my flower garden as well as make my yard more pleasant, any ideas will be welcome :) don't be afraid to share and please do- Lucy

Oké then Botany-- here are a few foto's of the pergola in the stages of construction.

My pal kindly posed for this foto in the early stages.

The cross beams come onto the frame.

Once the pergola was finished, the finishing touches could be applied.
This hook was for an elaborate system where-by we can hang a cloth to keep the sun off the sitting area.

The cloth is usable before the climbing plants have covered the pergola, but even after it has been covered with vegetation, it can be used to keep bugs and dead leaves from falling in one's tea as well as keep sun off when it shines at a lower angle.

The cloth can also be hung in this fashion to keep out the lower afternoon sun.

Those first pics were from the beginning when the pergola was new. Here is a recent foto showing how the plants have begun climbing up the support poles and across the top.

Right then, this pergola was built to stand near the garden house and for the purpose of giving shade for the all-important "work pauses". ;)

Pergola's are usually constructed narrower and are placed to be used as an arch under-which one can sit or walk. They are also sometimes purposely built to just stand alone, like a folly for plants to scramble up or as a structure on which bird feeders are hung.

The constructions are usually the same--four corner posts with a flat or arched top and sometimes lattice strips used at the ends.

I am interested in what you will make and how you will use it.
    Good luck.

Pergola is a very unique concept which gives the garden space a different looks. The images above explains very well about the design and look & feel after building a pergola...For me its just look awesome.

Wow Sjoerd that looks wonderful. You did a great job. Love the fabric Idea. I would love to do that on our upper deck. But we get way to many wasps flying around there. I would have to totally enclose it.

    Thanks 2-T.
I'm glad that you like it. I get a great deal of enjoyment out of that pergola. the Clematis plants are growing slowly, but they're coming along.
