I was down on the corner of my place where the trees grow, admiring the thick carpet of fir needles that have accumulated and appreciating their mulchiness. I only meant to photograph this intriguing hole under the roots of one of the firs, as I was curious about what had made it. I should have guessed, when I saw there was a mushroom growing inside. Apparently, I annoyed the resident more than a little.
He was a bit more cooperative when I explained why I wanted his picture. He worked it out and believes Frank is his third cousin, twice removed on his mother's side. She emigrated from a stump in the woods near the Lundberg family,

Ah I believe he is of the Blue Hat clan, a rambunctious lot. There may be a relation there somewhere. Ask him if he has heard about my new Gnome Home that Zuzu is building. Then watch his hat turn green

Ya know, I decided not to mention Zuzu's home. I just couldn't tell what sort of arsenal he has in that little hollow place, but I know my cat avoids it like the plague! A jealous gnome is an uuuugly thing.

And that has me wondering, will I need to include a corral for Frank's snail?

Never met a gnome yet who hadn't roped a snail into service. I think that's why they are so prevalent around here. Of course, the Really nasty-tempered gnomes prefer slugs. We gots lots of slugs. But Jan, no leeches

Do gnomes ride on those nasty banana slugs that you have in WA? I'll never forget the first time I saw one. I do think it was in OR tho. Not far from you. Betcha got leeches, but those banana slug monsters eat them. You have to protect small dogs and children as well.

Seeing a banana slug isn't so bad. Now stepping on one barefoot, that's a Washington experience they just don't mention in the tourist ads. Actually, it could be that the banana slugs ARE gnome landmines!

What you need is some sontgurlge scent to make a boundary he will think a snotgurgle is in the vicinity. That way nobody gets hurt, I saw them make people eat them on Fear Factor, and nows I have visuaLized stepping on one bare-footed thanks critter painter

I thought about the snotgurgle scent line, but that seems a bit cruel. The gnome wouldn't be able to get out to 'ShroomMart if I did that. Besides, have you ever Smelled a wet snotgurgle?? *shudder*

If you want a real rodeo, put beer out for the slugs and then watch Frank try to ride him! Have you ever seen a cowboy on a drunk bull? But he might be able to do ok, if he feeds them Gnome Juice! At least you will be able to track him, just follow the slime trail!

HAH! You really think any self-respecting gnome would allow beer to go to waste on a slug? In fact, it is in deference to the gnomes that I buy the cheapest, nastiest beer available to use as slug bait. Some people plant bulbs, in Washington we plant cans of beer.
