|
With all the talk about what to plant and where to plant it we often forget that a garden does not only have to contain items of a 'planty' nature. A well placed structure can make a garden come alive even more and add variety and suprise to your surroundings.
I know that some of the members have already posted photos of their garden structures so I was motivated to find out what structures (static, decorative items) that you have in your garden. Feel free to list anything, even the garden shed! Maybe we can all give each other ideas to spruce up our gardens

My favorite thing is a flying pig. I have some of the butterflies on springs that I'd hope would mostly scare away hungry wildlife and some small animals for my kids but the flying pig has a spot right in the front!

My main one is my pond and my, soon to be, waterfall. The only other is the shed I do have garden furniture a bird feeder pole and my 'lady of the Lake' though and a few bits and bobs like a small frog and lizard carved out of stone and some toadstools. That's about it really.
Mmmmm come to think of it the patio is a structure and so are my stepping stones I suppose.

Our community garden has a bench, dry river bed, gravel path, flag pole, bird bath, another flag pole, some stepping stones, driftwood, rocks and two rabbits.

Thought I would bring this one back to the top since I was thinking about asking the same question after Frank mentioned his laptop was about to need replacing and I suggested me make a garden ornament from it.
I have a windmill....down here it almost a requisite in garden decor
but mine has a snowflake painted on the blades and "rudder"
I have a birdfeeder put together from a lamp base that I love, a glass and a plate.
A plant stand made from a tall brass candle stand and two trays
Two bird baths made by adhering terra cotta plant trays to the bottom of terra cotta strawberry planters
One birdbath made by nesting terra cotta flower pots upside down and placing a large terra cotta plant tray on top
Soon as I get the pictures rounded up I will post them to the Members Gallery section.

Apart from the shed and greenhouse, we have a pond, sundial (the base of which is 100 years old) and lots of wood and slate. My darling has a fetish for wood and slate! Not little bits, on no, the bigger the better! Then of course we have the kids climbing frame and slide, and there fab playhouse that my darling built a few years ago.

Well, now we have the bridge. In the front we will have the waterfall when it gets a little warmer. We have the arbor where the herb garden will go. Right now it has an exercise bike, until we get the carport closed in. It's about half done so maybe soon. In the back, there's the bridge, a glider, Chance's covered deck, a dog house, a wood box, various lawn chairs and a new garden sign that says, "No crows allowed". There are a couple of sheds, a compost bin, a trash dumpster and our truck sets in the driveway if that counts. Dooley

If you take a virtual stroll around these are most of the structures you would see. Starting at top left, is the 16 by 8 greenhouse. Next is the Tunnel and then the Gazebo in the Daisy Lawn
Row 2 is the Pergola, then the Swing Seat and thirdly the Arbor.
Row 3. The Summerhouse and patio, a raised bed full of conifers and the Gazebo in the Wood.
Row 4. The bridge over a dry stram down to a pond, another greenhouse, the Fruit cage.
Row 5. A bird bath made from an old gate post and a carved piece of rock we found, the Alpine House and finally the Shade area and shade house.
Unpictured are various sheds, the Chicken run and coop and also a couple of Trellis arches.
There are other things too which may get pictured one day.

The bath itself we think was the base for a post, as in archeological digs where they find post holes, this has a sharpened post like hole in it.
We spend a lot of time in the garden. There are other things too which may be regarded as 'structures' in a different interpretation of the term.
