My hubby brought me home a big fat Asian persimmon. When I went to eat it I wasn't sure what was inedible in it. It was a little paler in the center so I cut that out. Is the whole thing edible? Rolling Eyes
Also when we were kids we ate pomegranates outside and spit the seeds like watermelon. Now they are used for edible garnish. Are you supposed to chomp them up? Can you possibly be meant to spit the seeds in your napkin? Embarassed

I have done the same as you Bethie. They do look good but I am not adventurous enough to just bite into them.
One reference I did find said it depended on the type of persimmon.

* STEP 1: Wash Fuyu persimmons (which look a little like a squashed tomato), remove core and leaves, and slice or eat whole.
* STEP 2: Rinse the acorn-shaped Hachiya persimmons and slice in half. Remove seeds and spoon fruit out of skin.

I found the same reference as Toni, for persimmons.

As to pomegranites, a real fav of mine (wish I had a bushel of 'em)
I dunno what's considered polite, but I've always chomped them,
Wink everything 'cept for the skin.
