You know you're a die-hard junker when you see your hubby off on his visit to the old family place,
smiling and waving and saying "Bring me a surprise" 
and he returns with a pile of "retired" baler chain in the back of his van . . . . . and you're thrilled. 
That's exactly what happened here a couple of years ago. (Boy, has he got my number?!  )
As I recall, each piece of this articulated chain was about 8 or 10 feet long,
and altogether, it made a substantial impediment in the middle of hubby's workshop floor.
After a few weeks of pushing and shoving, shaping and reshaping,
generally, just trying to figure out what it all "wanted" to be,
I finally found old "Rusty" in there, just waiting to be born.
Hubby welded each joint in the chains (and there were a mess of 'em), and reclaimed his shop floor.
"Rusty" now stands back on the wooded lot where we built the shop/studio.
Our scrappy equine measures around 5 ft tall at the rump and roughly 8 ft, tip to tail,
and hurricane force winds just don't seem to phase him at all.
I'm eagerly awaiting my welding lessons, but for the last few years,
hubby's work has kept him on the road so much, there just hasn't been time.
Just imagine what I could get up to  , I already have my own helmet

Sharon had shown me this on the other site I was amazed. Of course we all know you have super powers because you have a secret identity like Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne LOL Love rusty and you really were a cheap date

 That is just amazingly... amazing Zuzu, the surprises from your yard just keep on coming. Do you have any formal art education Zuzu because it sure looks like it. How did you plan making the creation? I'd imagine it wasn't totally straightforward. Thanks for posting it for all to see. If I had this in my portfolio I would have posted it on day one.

Cheap, maybe, but not easy. 
DH and I laugh about the year when I asked him to give me a "big rock" for our anniversary,
Of course he knew I didn't mean jewelry, I wanted a nice large stone to sit by the pond.
Now, in this part of the world, we've got sand by the ton,
but there really aren't any rocks around here . . . jewelry would've been easier  a lot easier.
Netty, this piece was truly nothing more than a happy accident.
I can honestly say that I had no idea what was going to happen when I started to play.

Rusty's feet are bolted to the earth.
We poured two concrete footers, one under both hind feet and one under the front,
and we sunk lag bolts into the wet concrete, thread-ends up.

Zuzu that horse is great. Isn't it great when it tells you what it wants to become? Just think of all the years that chain was being used and saw the horses in the next field and longed to be free and running around like they were.
Okay, when Amanda was 4 her favorite movie was The Brave Little Toaster, she watched it almost continuously every day for weeks. So it is no surprise that I give inanimate objects the power to think/talk/feel sometimes.
I have added old baler chain to my list of junque to be on the look out for. My FIL was a welder for many years before retiring and Randy knows how to weld too, so I have my workmen lined up just need the chain.

How did I miss this? Zzp, this is just wonderful. Let me know when you would like to visit this part of the world. We have lots of junk here. In fact we measure it in cubic tons.
