We've all seen them. Gardens so ugly only their mother could love them. Usually the result of the owner having a over pretentious personality and a bad case of design blindness.
A mile or two from my parent's home in Ireland is a newly built house probably 2-3 years old which contains the worst garden I have ever seen. Just imagine a lawn. Now imagine 10 - 20 beds arbitrarily cut out in varying different shapes. It looks the cover of a really bad 80s album. Yuck! The sad part is they probably think it looks great 
Any design nightmares haunting your area?

Apart from mine????  Yes, our next door neighbours have one of the ugliest gardens I've ever seen!!

Hmmm maybe I can do some stealth photography while they are enjoying their Xmas dinner. It will require some cunning  P.S only kidding!

Just what I was thinking Polly, sounds like my yard. Beds here and there, wherever there is a high piece of land. But then again, I plant what I like and how I like. LOL

I'm with you, Polly, bad is in the eye of the beholder, just like beauty.
If your garden isn't the place to "please yourself" . . .
. . . well I just don't know,
plus if it drives the neighbors a wee bit crazy, hey that's gravy!!

Oh, no, Julie, FRED is not changing except he is getting a bit larger this next spring.
But when I started thinking of plans for the front yard, my first idea was to have different shaped beds scattered around the yard....at least for starters. Then slowly enlarge each one till they were all joined into one big one.....very much like the way FRED started life.
When Frank started this topic I figured I would just razz him a bit. I would like to see pictures of that other yard tho.

I haven't seen one bad looking garden posted by a member since the start so no-one has to worry And it is true what Zuzu said about bad being in the eye of the beholder.

I like the look of almost anything green, but I've seen a few things put into the ground that make me shake my head (What were they thinking??) - in the subdivision next to us, for instance... When I go walking I always pass a tiny little plot between two driveways that contains the metal cover for access to the pipes below. Someone, apparently wanting to hide the ugly access, has planted about 8-10 young cedar trees around it! Right now they are fluffy and aromatic and only about 4 feet tall, but can you imagine what a mess they will have in just a handful of years? So much for that access, or the driveways, for that matter.
