This is what Christmas is .Family,A beautiful cake ,A beautiful Christmas tree your children decorated asip of
Sloe Gin (Egg Nog here) A thought in
our head of our baby Jesus laying
snuggly in a manager with loving parents around him. That to me is what Christmas is all about. All the gifts and trees can not erase that memory in my mine.

Wow! I love your tree, it looks so happy!
Your children's enthusiasm shows in every sparkle.
I've never had home made Sloe Gin, or Christmas cake, either, I feel quite deprived.
They both look marvelous, is that a rolled fondant icing?
My mother used to make a very tasty Cranberry cordial, I'd forgotten all about it
until I saw your Sloe Gin, it was that same clear beautiful color.
I must hunt around and see if I can find her recipe . . .
. . . maybe in time for NEXT Christmas.

The tree and the cake are both lovely. How is the sloe gin made? My grandma made cherry bounce, which was homemade cherry wine. We had to go through the woods and find the wild cherry trees and strip the cherries off for her to make it.

EJ, what is the icing on that cake, it is soooooo smooth and perfect looking. Fondant or Marzipan?
What is the cake on the inside?
I would love to make some Sloe Gin, but have never seen blackthorn plums around here.
I bet the kidlets were really pleased with themselves when they finished the tree. It does look really great. I would let Amanda decorate the tree when she was younger but never Randy.....he throws the tinsel on in clumps, looks like he used a cannon.

Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone! Jessica (number one daughter) is currently decorating her very own Christmas cake! I shall post a piccy later.
The cake is covered in fondant icing - nice and easy when time is against you. I used to decorate wedding cakes and I found you could polish it up and get a high sheen if you had the time, and a steady hand! The colours are marzipan - my most favourite part of the cake! The cake is a rich fruit cake packed with golden sultanas, cherries and other dried fruits, then lashed with brandy.
The sloe gin is very easy to make. I gather the blackthorn sloes in October time and put them in the freezer for a week or so - this weakens the skin so the fruits release their flavour and colour easier! Then into a large jar - the idea being a third sloes, a third sugar then filled to the top with gin. This is given a shake every day for about a month, then I just forget about it until about now when I pass it through a jelly bag and bottle accordingly. You can sweeten more if necessary. It is a very strong drink, just lovely Christmas afternoon!!
