Ahhh, at last! I am only about 200 pages in, but thought I should explain my absence for the next few days.....

So glad someone sent it for my kids (hee, hee)!

Ian (my husband) loves Harry Potter and so does our 22 year old daughter, Laura. Edinburgh Castle got a make-over for the launch of the book on Friday. It was made to look just like Hogwarts School and Laura was trying her hardest to look VERY young so that she could get in (it was for 8-16 year olds only) but needless to say she didn't manage it!!! Laughing Laughing She was really disappointed and made us laugh when she admitted she'd even tried to bribing one youngester into saying she was his baby sitter!!!! J.K. Rowling was there reading passages from the book and giving away free, signed copies!!!
I think I'll lay on a 23rd birthday party for Laura in December and get all her friends to dress as Characters from the Harry Potter books - that should keep her happy and be lots of fun. Very Happy

Ok I'm going to shock you guys here but I have never read any of the Harry Potter books nor have I seen any of the movies. Shocked Although I do know who dies in the new book Laughing Laughing I guess I am just a bit strange.

I had to LOL about what your daughter did Eileen Smile I've heard of trying to make yourself older to get into nightclubs but I have never heard of try to make yourself look younger to get into an event. Did she get any photos?

Well, Frank, I just must suggest that you pick up the first one and give it a go ... I spent the summer that the last book was released starting from book one and reading all the way through. I wasn't so sure I would like it but have been a HUGE fan ever since.

I love what Eileen's daughter did, I would have loved to have just been there and might've tried to borrow a young child who would clutch to Mummy (me) for the reading!

Laura didn't even get near the castle to take piccies Frank I'm afraid. Sad She may be quite small (5'5") but is definately a woman if you know what I mean and there are just some assets you really can't hide - short of binding them!!! Laughing Laughing [/i]

I, too, have not read Harry Potter books. I have seen part of one movie. The one with the flying car was on when I came into the room and I stayed to watch a bit. Of course, volunteering in a library, I have heard all about Harry Potter. There is going to be a Harry Potter party on Wednesday during the children's summer reading program. I am not in charge of it though. My son, the librarian, has read all of them and was going early this morning to snag the library's new copy before someone else beat him to it. Not my cup of tea, I think. Dooley

I have to confess that, although Laura and Ian enjoy the Harry Potter books and films, I'm not exactly an ardent fan. I did see the first film and quite enjoyed it but I have soooo many books to read that I'm afraid HP is way down the list.

Well, I just finished .... WOW! I am surprised, sad, and can't wait for the next one! I guess that is what a book should do, make you want more! Well she does it very, very well! I have to go look for a forum to discuss this with others who've read it, I am reeling!

I have a friend who got slightly depressed after reading it and attempted to explain what emotions were going through her mind about the book.

The thing is that it was pretty hard to empathize when I have not read the books Razz Shocked

I felt pretty down too, and I can imagine it is hard to empathize! I usually don't enjoy it when a book or movie doesn't have something of an uplifting message, but this one definately does NOT. Even so, I just hope she can whip out the ending book quickly! I think the negative tone is only to pump up Harry to fight the good fight in the last book. Thanks for not spoiling it for me!

I'm glad to see a few Harry fans here. My son and I started a magical herb garden inspired by the books. We make all sorts of "potions" (bath products and recipes) from our plants. I've also knitted up a few Weasley sweaters and scarves.
