Number one son grew this from seed he chose at the Eden Project in Cornwall. It grew and grew and as you can see by the house bricks it is growing up against, it is reaching for the stars! I don't know what we will do when it reaches the roof!!

Mmmmm now I'm not exactly a mine of information when it comes to cacti I'm afraid. Do you have a botanical garden near you by any chance? They're bound to have hot houses with cacti in them and they should be able to give you lots of information about how to 'stop' this species.

*Mua-ha-ha* ........ You CAN'T stop them, if you cut them, they branch out,
and each of the branches grows straight UP.
You'll just have to raise the roof EJ.

Ahhhhh BUT if you cut it low enough down then at least it'll give Mark time to build a giraffe house for it!!!!!!!

I shall pass on all of your kind words to the little angel . Yes, it is a jade plant Sharon. I have a huge one in a massive pot, but bits get knocked off and I just bung them in and away they grow. Now if I try to take proper cuttings, they die!
I don't mind it branching Zuzu, as Eileen says, it would buy us some time. I suppose the only other option in the end will be to take it out all summer, then bring it in and lie it down during the winter months, wrapped in newspaper or something. It seems to grow very fast for a few months, then does nothing. I wonder if it will ever flower???

That is a cactus big enough to scare away neighborhood dogs.....and me too. Quite a specimen, EJ.

It has been growing for a couple of years now. I find cactus seed germinates quickly and easily, it is getting it to carry on growing I find hard. This one was left totally to the boy, and he did a good job! When we recently replanted it into the new cactus bed, I ended up with scratches all over my face where I hugged it into it's new spot.

EJ if it's any help I wrap my cacti in a newspaper before transplanting or repotting them. That way you save yourself a lot of thorn tears to your skin.

Maybe it needs one of those glass elevator shafts like the ones that go up the side of really tall buildings. Dooley
