|
Hi, I'm REALLY new to lawn maintenance and am glad I found this site.
My wife and I just seeded a BermudaGrass Mix in dirt out back, but I'm worried about mowing when the time comes. Our lawn is very small (about 8' x 15') so it's hard to justify buying a mower. How badly would a weedwacker damage the grass if I used it for mowing? I think I could maintain an even cut, but would the cable on the wacker damage the blades of grass too badly?
Thanks a lot for any help with this. I'm sure I'll have lots more questions to come...

I use one on my grass but I don't have new grass. I'd use it anyway, I think. My yard is too rocky in some spots and too small in other spots. Then, too, I try not to have too much grass because water is at a premium around here. Dooley

I find it takes quite a bit of practice to keep a trimmer steady enough for an even cut but it can be done if you keep it steady and horizontal to the ground. If you don't it has a tendency to scalp. I trim small areas often so I don't have to drag out the mower. ER

I use one and don't care if it kills my grass as its mostly weeds a Bermuda
Grass is a very hard grass to kill here in Texas. It would be easy to grow about any where I think.

By all means use a wacker. I have several little areas of grass I use my electic wacker on. It does a great job. Hubby has a gas one that tends to cut too short or just maybe he is doing that on purpose.

Thanks everyone for your input. I ended up buying a basic real mower that does an awesome job. I use the electric wacker for the edging.
Thanks again!

Ha ha. Yeah, I know it's small, but we just couldn't be at 'ease' with a yard full of crappy weeds and dirt. We've enjoyed the yard so much since we've finished it that it's definately been worth our while.
