As Ian has time off work to use up some holidays we've decided to revamp the whole of the front garden space. Firstly we removed the two large bushes that were taking up so much room. Then we took out the heathers, bulbs and rock plants. We dismantled the wall and dug one entire side over - twice - yesterday. We only have the other side to do before we redesign the layout. No plants will go in until after we've been to Holland in May. Everything there are soooo cheap that I don't see the point in spending more than double here. The hedging will stay in place.
Here's a look at what we've done so far.
(I decided to leave one heather as it was just too beautiful to pull out.)
Nearly everything is out of this side now - just the wall to dismantle and the rest of the planting to take away and then dig it over.
I don't want Ian to get bored now do I!!!!

morning eileen,love your fence,im a nut for picket fences,they make a wonderful background for flowers ,looks pretty,put out a garden bench and i'll be over for coffee,lol..

Wow, Ian is going to think twice before he tells you he needs to take more time off again.
Your yard is deeper than it looked in the picture of your cottage that you posted a few months ago. Guess those bushes did take up a lot of room.
What do you plan on coming home with from Holland or are you going to buy what strikes your fancy after you get there?

I bought a little pot of heather. Sure doesn't look as good as yours does. Will you still have room for a vegetable garden after you've been to Holland? I seem to remember you had your car quite packed after the last trip. Dooley

Toni the garden space is actually 30' x (almost) 14' altogether. You're right the bushes not only took up too much room but they cut out a lot of light too. I've yet to make up my list for Holland but I generally stick to it quite well - oh I'm such a liar!!!! 
Kat and Netty. I'm afraid that the picket fence will be going as it's rotten in quite a few places. We'll probably replace it with a brown one with flat, instead of pointed, staves.
Glenda. We're off to Holland on the 4th of May until the 14th. Won't be long now!!! 
Prim. That's only half of the rocks!!! Back-breaking work I can tell you. 
Dooley the veggie garden is going to be in our second back garden and there's more than enough space down there for all of our veggies thankfully. Your right the car was somewhat overloaded from our Dutch trip last time wasn't it?!!!

My back hurts just looking at all that work
Enjoy Holland! That is one place I will go before I die! I'd like to take my Mother and her sister to Holland and Sweden to look up some of their ancestors.
Oh, and shopping too

Oh, meant to tell you, those seeds you send? My aunt has simply been enjoying having the packets! I think I've convinced my uncle to get out there and plant the seeds, will post pics if he ever wrestles them away from her, lol!
