Spring time is well and truly here now and gardeners are much busier plotting around their gardens. So to continue this monthly series of topics, what are your April gardening tasks?

My biggest April gardening task is still dreaming about May. It doesn't want to warm up and stay warm here in Michigan. I have started finally to clean some of the debris from my beds and am talking about bringing in some topsoil to help a new garden we started last fall. Also have several things on order and the makings for a round tiered strawberry bed. Already have the plants - they were shipped too early so they are planted in pots in the garage.

The plans I have for Randy or the plans I have for myself? 
For Randy the list is not very long but they are things that I just can't do or not alone anyway.
He is making me some sawhorses, we trimmed tree limbs last evening, he needs to bend some rebar to use as anchors for the ladder the squash will climb and a couple of doodads and he needs to repair a pretty flower pot stand I found on the curb down the street a few days ago and a few oddnends
The gardening chores I have on the list now are:
using the sawhorses to make a work table for painting and sealing some wood garden items
finally getting the bricks from Lisa and making the wishing well
pulling up the English Ivy that we have let take over too much of the yard, especially since I now need that space for plants
New plans are always making themselves known so this is not a comprehensive list by any means.

I didn't think about a list for my husband but I guess probably no help from him this year. He is scheduled for surgery on his wrist the middle of April so will be laid up for awhile. This will be the second surgery on the wrist along with surgery last spring on his shoulder all resulting from his work accident 2 1/2 years ago. These are the main reasons he is not much help in the gardening department.

Now that the weather has changed for the worst,the 70 temps have left, and the 20's are back.Aprils chores may be put of till May.

Yay for April - plenty to do.
Thankfully, most the cleanup stuff was done last month so now I get to play a little. Tasks for this month? Getting the rest of the garden in, spraying the apples once the blooms are gone at the end of the month, weeding, weeding...and did I mention weeding? Spraying weed seedlings and tossing slug-pellets, whee! Time to put the kitchen-counter seedling-babies out to fend for themselves.
Planting grapes and blueberries and ferns too. Everything is so pretty now!

Mainly just cleaning up. I just started some containers for the Container Garden. Irrigation repair in preparation to turning on the systems.

We have quite a bit to do. We have to re-make the paths out front and re-shape the beds. Then we have to build a new fence and begin landscaping.
Ian also has to remove all the stones to our other back garden and begin making a wall there with them. After that he has to cut down about a dozen trees, remove all the brambles, dig the whole area over, add compost and plant his veggies. Apart from that just cutting the grass, weeding and general maintenance of the pond and back flower garden.

My April tasks are mainly cleaning up debris in the gardens, re-edging, and weeding. I like to give the grass around the house a good raking too. Oh and planting more seeds and potting up anything else that I over wintered.

Weeding, in La. there's always weeding, mulching, yard clean up, lots of planting left to do, I haven't even started on the containers. We are going to try and get the trailer sprayed down and washed before it gets too hot, if not is will have to wait till fall. We are also trying to get a few trails cleared in our brush pile to get some of our topsoil back.

Eileen - I love that Ian had so many things to do. Are those by his chosing or yours? My husband tends to stay hidden when it comes to outdoor tasks.

Yesterday I finished my last big weeding session on the creek bank after pruning a friends roses for most of the day. Fertilized my roses before going in to fix supper and now I am looking forward to planting planting planting lol. Waiting to be planted are three hellebores, three astilbe,three forgetmenots two verigated jacobs ladders and two beautiful violets all for the creekbank. So much fun so little time!
