If you paint terra cotta pots, you should brush a sealer on the inside of them. After all, that aged, white stuff on the outside is minerals that have leached through the clay.
Somebody gave me a bunch of "hens and chicks" plants. Since my tipsys will go on the front porch (full sun) I think those will do nicely in my pots once the summer heat hits. At least, that Sounds logical, lol!
Polly, I often pick up plain ol' pots just uber-cheap at garage sales. Now rebar, that might be a bit harder to come by.

You can get rebar at any home improvement store, Home Depot and Lowes are where we get mine. Some lumberyards in smaller towns will carry it too.

Sherry, I put hen and chicks in my top one. I think I did moss roses in the others last year, don't remember now. I may get some more sedums for them since they will come back every year and I am moving them. I have a whole bag of cacti soil so I have plenty to fill them with.
