Hi, My lawn is currently almost all dirt or moss. There are a few patches of brown grass. It's probably 1/3 moss and the rest mostly dirt. From what I've read online, it sounds like I need to check the pH level and possibly lower it with lime, rototill the soil, plant seed and fertilize, and water a lot until the grass is established. Any tips on how much lime/fertilizer/seed I will need? I think I will wait a couple of weeks to plant it since it's supposed to snow here this week. Any other tips or advice would be welcome as well (I've never done this before). Thanks in advance!

Hi Dirt&Moss, it just so happens that my brother has wrote a great article on seeding a new lawn here:
http://www.gardenplansireland.com/articles/article15.html

Regarding the pH level you would be raising the level rather than lowering it (adding lime makes the soil more alkaline). You would be aiming for a range of pH 6.5 to pH 7.0 for your lawn.
More info for you here:
