|
There is a certain amount of curiosity within me about the names that people choose, for places like this. Some are obvious, and some are a complete mystery. It's a little like the personalized license plates. It's a challenge to try to figure out their meaning. When we travel, we play a game in the car, trying to figure out the meanings. For instance, one of our cars has a plate that reads "TOMIMI" The other reads 5894 LOL. The tomimi plate is a combination of my first name, and my wife's, Mimi. The other is our house # and LOL is for our town, Land O' Lakes.(not laugh out loud) The name that I chose when I joined the Stew is Calomaar. That is the name of our home here at the lake. It comes from the first names of some of our ancestors, who also spent much time here. The Ca is from Carol, the lo is from Lolita, the Ma is from Madeleine, and ar is from Arthur. In the picture below you can see the sign over the walk to the house. We often photograph guests under the Calomaar sign. So, if you had any of that same curiosity, there's the answer.
Tom Calomaar

Very interesting Tom. I had the first license plate figured out.
I really like the name Calomaar, sounds magical. It is really nice that it is a combination of your ancestors,
I had thought it might be your last name.
We used to have a website that we named EvilSnowBeanie ....my husbands SASS alias is Evil Roy, I am a Snow lover and at the time our daughter was passionately collecting Beanie Babies. My garden's name is FRED, story on that one is my first gardenstew blog entry.

Mine is just downright boring. Eileen is my user name and my real name.
I had imagined Calomaar to be some sun drenched, tiny, and practically unknown, Greek island where you and your wife had spent your honeymoon.

Wow Eileen you are closer than you know, we did spend our honeymoon at Calomaar, it is small and almost unknown, and there is an Island on the lake. We were married in October, so the sun drenched part was wrong, and I'm not quite sure how to tie in the Greek part, but WOW.

Thank you Frank. The house was designed by Mimi & I I used a CAD program to come up with the building plans. The part that you see on the picture is the addition to the old part. Maybe some day I'll tell the story in a blog.

My user name comes from my niece Kristen. When she was little, she couldn't say Annette so she called me Aunt Netty.
