We are moving into a new home at the end of the month. I have a large wall going down a staircase that measures 9 ft. tall and 7 1/2 ft. wide. Can anybody give me any idea of what size tapestry would look best? I don't want it to over power the wall. Thanks!

Hi Kalone, welcome to GardenStew
What colour is the wall? A tapestry on a white wall is going to be very noticeable so then it may be a good idea to have a smaller one. Is it possible to see a photo? It may help us to make a better judgement.

Hi Frank:
Am trying to send a picture, it is not the greatest. Its the wall in the middle above the staircase that goes down to the lower level of the house that I am talking about. I appreciate your help.

Thanks for the photo kalona. This scenario reminds of a work place I used to work in once, they had a huge painting on the wall in front of you when you started to go downstairs. I was in that scenario better than it was large because it wanted to be seen.
You mention that you don't want it to overpower the wall. But I'd also bet that you don't want it to be barely noticed at all (otherwise why invest in one ). So if it were me I would go with a large size one whose colours complement your wall colouring. The other alternative may be a smaller tapestry with colours that don't overly complement the wall colouring (i.e. stands out more). Does this help you?

Do you think that a tapestry 60" wide and 80" high would be too large considering the wall size? The other tapestry I had in mind is 37" wide and 52" high. I just can't seem to visualize which size would be better.
Thanks again! Kalona

im making a queen size quilt, that would be to large, its 97 x97,but thats way to big, you'd need a quilt like a twin or full maybe , hang a sheet or blanket thats small and experiment with it for size and you'll know what looks right.my best guess would be twin size, check antique stores ,flea markets ,sometimes you'lll find nice ones decent priced!
