I live in Northern Florida near the Georgia border. I have a beautiful little garden that is in the shade most of the day. The PROBLEM- it gets 3 hours of hot Florida sun from 12 pm - 3 pm each day. Plants that require sun fail to thrive or flower. Shade plants cannot tolerate the 3 hours of strong sun. I thought New Guinea impatients would work, but they look horrible by 2pm despite the fact that I soak them in the morning (& it's not even hot out yet). I'm hoping for some flowering plants color in this garden.
I'm just about out of ideas (& money from purchasing plants that die).

Hi Deb, welcome to the Stew from north Texas. Please post an intro of yourself in the Welcome to GardenStew forum so we can all get to know each other.
We do have a couple of members from Florida, maybe one of them will have some plants that would work for you. I would recommend that you call the local arboritum or botanical garden if you have one close by and find out the plants they recommend.
I lived in south Florida many years ago and know that just about anything will grow there but am not familiar with the norther Florida plants.
Good luck and let us know what info you find out.

I'm in SW Fla. and I know you get colder weather and more frost,freeze etc. up where you are so I would ask you, is this area to be planted on the north side/south etc.? out in the open, protected in any way? then go from there...

My garden is in my backyard, in back of my screenhouse, located on the east side of my house. It would get plenty of sunlight except for the fact that the garden is bordered by a conservation area which blocks the east sun. As the sun rises and moves west, the garden is then blocked by my house. I have a photo, but can't figure out how to attach it in this forum. I very appreciative for any help you can lend.

Do you have photo bucket? that is what I use for attaching photo's..
I believe crepe myrtle would do well at your place, I have mine in full sun and they do wonderful, however we travel and see them all through MS and many are surrounding huge oak trees and are always in shade, and still blooming their hearts out...they are the bushes of crepe myrtle not the trees and come in pink, white, purple, red etc. if you prefer some blue then go with "blue plumbago"
