Pink, I came across upside down tomatoes on the internet, where else. Then I got to thinking that I could hang them from pullys from the garage roof. My old garage, sat in the same spot and I had a raised bed where I planted a couple of tomato plants. They always did good there as they got sun all day long and the garage wall radiated heat on them. The next step was figuring out how to get them high enough to keep the coons out of them. I have pullys attached to the roof and I can raise them and lower them if I need to. When it rains, the rain will flow onto the lids where there is a 2 inch hole and run into the bucket. If I need to water them by hand, I have a hose attachment that is u shaped on the end and I can water them easily.

Hi,
I saw similar things happen on many american forums. My grandma looked at me as if I came from Mars when I showed her pictures of tomatoes hanging upside down - now she's even trying it.
Here is my experiment for this year - we don't have raccoons so that should be one problem less

How neat! I've got some hanging tomatoes as well, though I'm growing mine in bags. If bags don't work well for me I'll be trying buckets next year!

Looks wonderful but, I hope you tie really good knots. The coons around here can't tie yet but have no problems uniting  .

The maters have doubled in size in less than a week. Tues will be a week sice I planted and hung them. They are saying a chance of frost tonight so I covered them. Very easy to cover. My wife made 2 bags out of an old sheet with one side open. It just tied it around the top and gathered it all together at the base and put a rubber band around it. Then I pulled it together and held it closed with a couple of clothes pins. Took about 5 minutes to do both of them.

It was 2 weeks yesterday since I planted them and they have tripled in size. The plant on the left has 8 bloom on it and one pea sized mater. The coons ain't gonna get them this year!

Well, they have been in the buckets for 3 weeks today. I have a pea sized mater on each plant. The plant on the left has 8 bloom on it and the one on the right has 10. One is a Bonnie Brand heirloom and the other one is a Bonnie Standard.
