I have an area next to my house (north side) which is shaded heavily by a tree and no grass grows there or any other plants ive tried. It stays pretty wet all year round and I was wondering.. could pond plants (since they live in water) work there? Anyone ever tried this??
Thanks!
Sarah

Do you get any sun in the area during the day at all? Aquatic plants like full sun generally although some tolerate partial shade.
Also how saturated is the soil? It will need to be very wet to support aquatic plants.

The conditions sound right for Colocasia ("Elephant Ear") plants,
or is that something you've already tried?

The area gets hardly any sun at all, if any at all. I have tried some of the 'redish and greenish spotted mini elephant ears (forgot the real names) in an area that was on the same side except where i planted those, it got evening sun late in the day. Those seemed to drown.. So, suggestion might be the BIG elephant ears?
thanks again (:

Yes, I think under those conditions,
I might look to the "bog" plants, moreso than "pond" plants.
Only problem is, some of them can be very invasive.
For instance Houttuynia ("Chameleon Plant") loves wet feet and shade,
but it also really likes to stretch out when it's happy.
