hello Mountain Juggalo,
I used to plant basil in containers last year and they were very crowded when they germinated. But when they grew up with the second couple of leaves I carefully transplanted them to grow 5 in a pot(I grew up them inside)and when i pulled them out I left some soil on the roots.
If yours are passed second leaves you can transplant them.
That is from my experience:)

Floret has given you some sound advice there MJ. Always try to give your seedlings a chance to form their first 'real' leaves before transplanting. Very Happy Good luck and do let us know how the thinned out seedlings do.
