I have a large patch of Poison Ivy that I sprayed with Roundup on Friday. When I checked it yesterday, I couldn't believe my eyes! It was completely fine! In fact, it looked like it had grown!
Does anyone know what will kill Poison Ivy?

Netty, we tried the Roundup too and it didn't affect the poison ivy in the least. Randy was told that 2,4-D
was the only thing that would work and it did.
We had a patch at the corner of our house that I got into a few years ago, before we knew it was there and my legs were covered with huge blisters for two weeks and I still have scars from them. Using something extreme was the only choice we had, I didn't want to go thru that again.
As with all chemicals, use extreme caution when using.

Yikes!
Also, be sure you don't try to burn the remains once it is dead - it will get into the smoke!

We use roundup on poisin ivy here and it kills it. Things have to be actively growing for it to work. We have about 100 plants scattered all over the place so I'll let you know if it works this time. We stupidly ignored it last year. After Toni's story I put on disposable gloves and gently pulled some little ones out of my flower bed. Gave me the CREEPS big time. It grows absolutely everywhere here. Hubby likes to pretend we are immune to it but I think we have just been lucky. Murder it posthaste!!

OK. Hubby says in the case of shiny leaved things like ivy and some poisin ivy the roundup doesn't penetrate the shiny leaves it just rolls off. You need to add a surfactant to the roundup so it will stick to the leaves.

My dad always sprayed diesel on it but I think you can't do that anymore because its considered a contaminate now.I bet Scrub and Brush killer would do it.They have it at our feed stores here.

OK I'll have to post the link I was sending you in the PM here instead Netty.
http://landscaping.about.com/cs/weedsdiseases/a/poison_ivy.htm
It has 3 pages full of lots of interesting facts about poison ivy and how to deal with it. Hope it helps. Sorry about the PM's.
