This is an economy fix up (due to cost of basement improvements & will do a complete gut at some point in our lifetime). So, the bathroom gets a few cosmetic changes only. Here's the plan...
1. Long wall tiles are going away....too much for me!
2. Bead board in white is going in on the long wall.
3. Replace drawer pulls, quick & easy update, the cabinets are quite nice actually.
4. New window covering.
5. May actually paint the remaining tiles white. Have not decided on that yet.
6. Paint walls - probably in a brown to match floor & rest of house.
Before:
Careful removal of tile & dry wall (didn't want to destroy existing floor or other tiles). Will install new drywall this evening.

Your bathroom sounds as though it's going to look fantastic Pianolady. You certainly like to keep yourself busy!! I look forward to seeing the new improved room once it's finished.

Wow! That's a cosmetic change only
For me, a cosmetic change is new towels
I'm looking forward to the finished room -- I love beadboard!

We're done!....well, at least for now. Hubby & son finished baseboard trim last night.
Our eventual dream is a total gut & a new layout, but that'll just have to wait, we don't have the money. I would have liked real beadboard, but we just used paneling instead, as we'll be ripping it out later and wanted cheap.

Your bathroom looks terrific Pianolady!! What a difference to how it used to look. A job well done!!! The towel rail fits in perfectly - what a great find that was.

Love the beadboard!!! We plan to do that in our new bathroom, any hints or helpful suggestions?

I'd go with real wood bead board if you can & stain/poly, or prime/paint it. The paneling is OK, but probably not the best long-term idea. We could not get it on the wall without at least a few spots needing touch up. We're hoping to get 10 years out of it & that's it.
If you do get paneling, they make a special glossy panel for bathrooms. I'd highly recommend that over the flat finish.

The bathroom looks much better. But I think a lighter shade on the wall would have made it appear bigger.
