There aren't as many as I wanted but we were having so much fun picking the berries and talking that I just kept forgetting to get the camera out of Randy's shirt pocket and use it. Lisa is taking a girlfriend of her's out there next weekend and she promised to take pictures of the little town of Edom for me.
The day was overcast, which was wonderful, even a little rain just before we arrived.
This is the store where you pickup your berry baskets, they have all sorts of pretties and goodies to browse thru and their wonderful blueberry cream pies.
Heading to the field, you pass by the owner's house. The backyard is filled with Blackeyed Susan and Indian Blanket.
There are 46 rows that look pretty much the same as this one. Most are blueberries, but they do have blackberries which weren't ripe for picking last weekend. Last year they planted 4500 more bushes, but those are not open to the public yet as they won't reach full production for 3 years.

That looks like so much fun, wish we had something like that around here. It's so small around here its a do it yourself or nothing. So glad you had such a great time.

Great photos Toni, looks like labour but fun labour. How does it the whole process work? You arrive, pick a basket and just start picking? And pay for the priviledge? I'm confused

Basically that is the way it works Frank. They have the 1/2 peck baskets, that's 8-9 pints, I have no idea how to convert that to metric. When you fill as many of them as you want, you pay $10 for each full basket and then they weigh the partially filled ones and adjust the price accordingly. 8-9 pints at the grocery store would cost roughly $30-$40.
When you factor in the cost of gas to make the two hour drive each way and a meal or two on the road, the berries cost more than that.
But for us it isn't about the blueberries anyway, it is about getting to spend an entire day with each other.

At least a couple of pies and a whole lot of jam. Then there are blueberry pancakes and waffles and blueberry muffins and just plain blueberries.
I just might not have picked enough, come to think of it.

I wish I had one Bethie. We buy a Blueberry Chipotle Sauce made by Fischer & Wieser that is really good, just thought I would play around with ingredients to see what I could come up with.
If anything good comes from it, I will post the recipe.
