We are raising these two inside because something keeps eating the others. I thought it was neat to have two side by side to show the differences.
The queen is the larger one in the picture, although Monarchs get slightly larger. The queen has darker markings and an extra set of appendages that have red at the bases.

What strange looking and colourful caterpillars. You must let us see them as they develop Anna as I find it fascinating.

I love them too! Their bodies are so soft, silky feeling. Their appetites are voracious. I need to put more leaves in already. I put a few in at a time so that they stay fresh.
I'll add new pictures as they grow!

Nice pics. The only ones I have so far this year is the large ones. Well I had 5 but the kids came for a visit and took them home with them.

Mine keep disappearing, not sure what's getting them so I decided I want at least one of each kind to make it.

I have so many bugs that visit, including assassin bugs and ants...it might be them....or the lizards...I have sooooo many lizards right now, they are reproducing like mad.

Cool picture Anna! I am watching a little Monarch caterpillar that I found on some milkweed in the garden. Once he / she is big enough I will take pics too.

Thanks Netty! Can't wait to see your pictures!
I've found some of the other monarchs, they were on the porterweed...weird, huh? Maybe they like the way the fuzzy leaves feel on their feet?
