We had a young one on the front deck a little bit ago. They aren't rare, but we don't see very many of them here. The pic is kind of grainy because I had to take it through the glass and screen in the front door. I went out the back door to try to get a pic of him and in the meantime Momma had flown in and was on the ground. Just as I peeked around the corner of the house he and Momma took off. This is the first one we have seen in 6 or 8 years. But it's nice to know that they had a nest and hatched out at least one. Their nests are unusual in that it hangs down from the branch like a sack and it is entirely woven from grass, string and whatever they can find. One year we put out brightly colored pieces of yarn in the yard to help us find their nests. The yarn disappeared, but we never found any nests!

They are beautiful. We are lucky sometimes to see one passing through. We collected an old nest from an island on the Mississippii almost entirely made of multi-colored barge rope. Clever birds!
