Hey everyone! I'm new here, and I'm happy to say that I'm excited to be on this forum. It looks like everyone here has alot of help to give!

Anyway, I'm currently working on my basement, and it has (ACK!) white walls. Now I'm not sure at all what color to paint it, so far there is no color scheme whatsoever, although I would like it to somehow go along with the carpet.

I would like it to be classy looking, not a color that is too hard to work with in color scheme purposes.

Below are pictures of the carpet and molding.
So, what colors would you suggest?
Thanks!

Hi IR, welcome to the Stew.

Since basements don't normally have very many windows to bring sunlight in you probably do not want to go too dark on the walls. Stark white can be blinding but you could use a white with a touch of gray. That would tone down the white and blend nicely with the gray carpet.

Use paintings, wall hangings, upholstery, pillows, etc for color. Since gray is considered a neutral color, you can decorate with any color you like and they will coordinate just fine.

I took your photo and put it in my paintbox, and played with colors, you may want to try this? I picked colors from you carpet, that I could see, and think that would be pretty, as you have many colors in that carpet, I think a color other than grey would look better with the baseboard.

I used a color called "cup of tea" that was a light brown with similar carpet in my basement, and it looks very nice, not too dark. It's much like the color 3rd from the right in SusieQ's photo. I agree to match the browns of the trim rather than going gray.

Anytime you have a room that does not get much sunlight, my designer told me to look for colors with some warmth, or "sun" in them. It worked for me in a room we have that only has one small window facing northern light, which from what she says, is a cold light. I went with a paint called "Sandy Lane" from Frazee and it went from dungeon to sunroom!

BTW, I don't think the color I mentioned would necessarily go with your carpet, and agree that a light brown, or tan might do nicely
