There are eleven different kinds of lavender in this garden catalog. Is there any one kind that is better than another or does it depend on climate, etc. Dooley

Hi Dooley, this site should give you an idea about lavender, which is a must have in any garden www.theherbaltouch.com/articles/lavender.html
lavender has many uses and is easy to grow however one tip is always prune after flowering leaving about 1 to 2 inches of growth , it is important not to cut into brown wood as it will not regrow regards Bugs

Well this is my second year trying to grow it. Last year, it lasted a week ..... or less. This year I bought seeds and sowed them. They spouted faster than my morning glorys. I can tell you, much easier to grow from seed!

Hi Dooley this ones for you . Ive just been sowing some veg and herb seeds . I came accross some lavender seed that I collected last year but forgot to label the variety . Its always nice to have the name of the plant on the label , I thought of your intrest in lavender and have labeled it Dooleys Pleasure . Hopefully soon I will have 24 pots up and running and will send you pics  Bugs

Two summers ago I had a lavender "Graves" from Goodwin Creek that bloomed constantly for about 6 months and was gorgeous. We had a bad freeze in Nov of that year and it couldn't survive that.
I have some seeds from it but didn't get a chance last year to try them.
The little herb shop I got it from closed last summer and I can't find that cultivar anywhere around here, but I think I will order it from Goodwin Creek website.
So this year I have a Goodwin Creek Grey. It hasn't bloomed yet of course but did live thru the couple below freezing nights we had last month.

Thanks, Bugs!! I never had a plant named for me. I planted two kinds of lavender seeds. I hope they come up. So, far they haven't. I have seeds left so when we get the greenhouse built I will plant some more. We are working on it now. I will look for the pictures. Dooley

Mmmm. Lavender... I have three going, but would love more. They're so fragrant it is a delight to weed around them, you want to just stick your head straight into them. Thanks for the link!

I was just heading over here to ask this question and here it is. I am dying to grow my own lavender, I use it in everything and it can be quite costly lol so I figure why not try and grow my own.
I use it in sachets in the drawers and I put some in the vacuum too so it helps with the doggie smell!

How do you use your lavendar in sachets? Do you dry it first? I have some lavendar and I love the smell.

I was thinking of trying to make some of mine into those little dryer bags you can toss in with your clothes - anyone ever tried that? I wonder how long the scent lasts that way.
