Hi everyone,
I'm new to GardenStew but should fit right in considering my name! Yuk yuk...

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this cutting I got from a co-worker. She said it was a rubber tree (or some variant) but it looks more like a variant of a palm to me.

Can anyone help? I would greatly appreciate it! All I know is that it needs to avoid direct sunlight (as you can tell by the one leaf...that was my first mistake)

Thanks!

Yes, Dumb Cane is what they are sometimes called. I bought a variegated one at WalMart the other day. It looks real healthy and was only $3.00. I separated its root system, making three plants and put it in a larger pot. I am going to leave it outside. We don't have winters in Texas where I am (watch it freeze and snow two weeks from now). So for $3.00 if it doesn't make it, I haven't lost much. I think it will do better out than inside.

The first answer is correct. It does not look too hot. It could be the result of being transplanted recently, too much water or lack of light. I have a couple.

Yes difenbachia is called dumb cane. If you have any pets or small children be sure it is somewhere that they cant chew on the leaves. Its called dumb cane cause if you do eat some it swells up your throat and you cant speak. In a pet it is very poisionous.
