I am the head gardener on a 200 acre estate and rabbits have been a BIG problem this year. They are so numerous this year that it's not uncommon to see 4 or more just walking from my car to the garden shed. They have been munching in all the gardens and making me most irate! I've been watching a couple of young fox on the property practice hunting on mice and birds and finally this young guy caught himself a rabbit!

Beautiful fox. Now that he has learned how to catch one of the rabbits, the two of them should start thinning the herd for you pretty quickly.

Let's hope those youngsters have a taste for rabbit now they've tried one. Really great shots you managed to get and such a healthy looking fox into the bargain.

Let me add to the celebration! Great looking fox!
Hopefully you start to notice a decline on the local rabbit population.

I have a question for you..????I was wondering will the fox kill a small dog if it is out and he is hungry?
I was always worried about an eagle going after my small dog when he was a pup, he only weighed 4 pounds when I got him. They would fly over our house a lot and I never left my pup alone.

I did notice a decrease in the rabbit population in the fall. There were at least 2 fox hunting rabbits and I found an old carcass hiding under a Hosta one day. Kind of gross and stinky - I guess this stash was forgotten - but kind of neat to find. The rabbits were so numerous and eating everything and it was getting so frustrating! (and expensive!)
I guess I'll find out how well the fox's did in the spring when I return to work

Sherry - I can't say for certain, but I think if a fox was hungry enough it would indeed go after a small dog. Better safe than sorry!
