I got a new puppy, a 4 week old boxer and I get to pick him up in about 2 weeks.

I'm trying to find some good names for him and I've checked out a book or two from the library.

So far the top names are:

Roger
Gerry (Gerald)
Mack (Big Mack)

anybody have any suggestions for names? I'd appreciate the advice!

Well if I ever get a dog some day I've already picked out the name in advance...Banjo!

I have a cat's name ready: Hippocrates. Since pets are pure medicine, I think it will fit nicely.

Better to have the puppy home with you a little while to see what character he shows. The name usually determines itself.

I agree with DR you really should have the pup at home with you before you decide on a name. You'll be able to observe its character and personality and a suitable name will just pop into your head. Very Happy

I agree with the girls. I like the name Mack but that might not fit him when you get him home and get to know him Laughing My Uncle's cats name is Dammit, if that tells you anything!!

I love Boxers. They are so adorable. I agree, when you get to know him, a name will come to you. My New Pitbull puppy is going to be big and buff so we named him Bouncer, as the one who throws out unruly patrons!

I just name all the cats after whatever musician they remind me of (because I'm weird like that). I've had Sid Vicious, Ozzy Ozbourne, Valo, Pete Townsend, Johnny Cash, Deedee Ramone, Iggy Pop (who was almost Cat Benetar until I got to know her).

I named my bird maypop, because he "may pop" up and bite you at any time... Whenever I name one of my birds or puppies, I usually go by the animals personality or some characteristic.

If he is a rough litle fellow you might name him Rowdy .My mom named 2 little bulldogs one time Rough and Rowdy .Those names fit perfect.I would wait and see what he acts like first.
You might end up naming him Puddles.Smile

Great suggestions here, my only one is to take your time trying out names. The most recent research I've read indicates that it takes a loooong time for dog's to "get" that the noise you just made means them anyway. When we got our dog, my son immediately named him Maximus Decimus Meridius, soleley because he thought it was a funny thing to name a tiny dog. Now he's plain (and booring) Max (though I call him Minimus at times). You'll be using the name alot if all goes well, might as well wait for a name to "sing" to you. (Ok, point of view of a flakey artist, lol!)

LOL @ "may pop" and "dammit"

My Dad had a similar nickname for our devious cat as well.

I agree with some of the prior posts... wait until you get the puppy home and see what his personality is like.

Like magic, a name will usually present itself without even having to think too much....

My two cats are Boswell (aka Hokey Pokey) and Benson (aka Hoochie Koochie) (( Don't ask! ))
