As a newbie I thought I would just describe my friut and veggie growing. I have 2 allotments in the next village - about a 5 minute car drive away. 'Plot one' has permanent plantings of 2 apple trees, an asparagus bed, strawberry patch, and a fruit cage containing gooseberrys, red and blackcurrants and my most favourite fruit, raspberries! 'Plot two' has a permanent structure across the middle - the patent pending Ava blight bashing tomato structure - a roofed area under which I grow my tomatoes, in the hope that as I control the amount of moisture, I can beat the dreaded blight! (Ava by the way is the nickname of my darling Husband).
Anyhows, had the first visit of the new year yesterday, and managed a very good harvest of parsnips, carrots, kohl rabi, salsify, celery sprouts and green mustard.
The parsnips are 'Gladiator', the carrots 'Autumn King', the sprouts are called 'Brilliant' and the celery is 'Pascal'.

I will bore you rigid with allotment photos Frank! I never claim to be organic, I try to be as natural as I possibly can, I don't spray and I do't use artificial fertilisers, but I'm afraid I do use slug pellets otherwise I wouldn't have much to harvest!

Looking forward to 'some' allotment photos then EJ We discussed slug control in an earlier thread. Funny thread too.
