As per Eileens request, here is a piccy of my Bird of Paradise, blooming away in my conservatory.
There are currently 5 more buds, and each bloom will last up to three months, great value....mind you.....it took 15 years of me growing it from seed before it flowered!
I will take a more recent photo as that snap was from just before Christmas.
Does anyone else grow tropical plants in their gardens, conservatorys or greenhouses?

Thanks EJ!!!!! I love seeing photographs of your Bird of Paradise although it always makes me a bit green with envy.
The only tropical plant I have is an avacado which I grew from seed last summer. It's about 1' high at the moment and doesn't seem to want to grow any bigger. Maybe, come the better weather, it'll pick up again.

Amazing EJ 15 years eh, very impressive! It looks like it has been worth all that effort. Is it a high maintenance plant?
// By the way, what a cute nephew!

It isn't high maintenance at all.....thank goodness! I don't have the time to pamper my plants. Being a tropical plant, it doesn't mind hot and dry, which is good as it lives year round in my conservatory. I feed it once in a blue moon, and it is totally pot bound. I do have a new HUGE pot for it, but wanted to wait until it had finished flowering, only thing is, it has sent up more flower spikes!
