This honker was in the front of our friends' house in suburban North Dallas. I think we called this a "writing spider" when I was growing up.

aka, Yellow and Black Garden Spider, Garden Spider, Orb Weaver, Writing Spider.....and my favorite Charlotte from the E.B.White book Charlotte's Web.
They are great for keeping the bug population under control.

I have bunches of those but I think mine are dead as the babies hatched and have blown away.They will be back everywhere next year .My favorite spider.

I do love the fact that spiders eat all the harmful bugs in the garden but I think BIG spiders are just a tad daunting - well at least to me they are.

When I find those in my garden, I steer clear! I like them in the garden but their size sure keeps me away!
