ActiveX Controls

Hi, Frank, et al:
I've been trying to do some research on 'ActiveX Control' programs without much luck... I went through the [COMPUTER and INTERNET] forum looking for any reference to these... I'm reluctant to claim any 'computer literacy' but I think maybe I could claim 'semi-literate'; when I attempt to "google-up" a 'define ActiveX control', all the definitions that come up seem to start a little beyond my level of understanding........
So, can you offer any guidance here.. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and any questions gladly answered................ Hank

Morning Hank, Active X controls are an Internet Explorer-only feature. They are essentially little applications that are installed within your Internet Explorer browser. If you are asked to install an Active X control when visiting a website make sure that it is a trustworthy site. NEVER install an Active X control from a dodgy site or site you are not 100% sure of. The reason for this is that Active X controls have access to your hard disk and can be potentially harmful.

Don't let that scare you off though, if it is a trustworthy site then feel free to install as Active X control can offer you powerful, useful functionality when visiting a website.

On a related note Mozilla Firefox does not support Active X controls. The nearest equivalent on that browser are it's Extensions/Add Ons.
