It looks like a type of fern to me, a maidenhair fern maybe.

Yup, I'd agree with that - Adiantum raddianum, I think.
It likes bright light, but no direct hot sun and
it thrives in a high humidity environment,
which is not always attainable in the average home.
It's roots must never dry completely, or the foliage will turn brown,
BUT it must also never stand soppy wet,
or it's root mass will die.
In short, it's an ideal plant for greenhouse or terrarium growing,
but sort of finnicky and demanding as a houseplant.

well I guess its a start for the poor plant. My mom bought it because it was beautiful and now I have it because she went traveling and I hate to see the thing suffer so thank you for the tips, I guess it will have to go next to the aquarium (most humidity in the house and lots of light) maybe it will be okay.

yes it's a maidon hair fern and i keep mine in the bathroom and put pebbles into the saucer and then stand plant on them
