My Rosemary plant has some dry stalks on it - any idea what is causing this ? The rest of the plant appears very healthy

Perhaps that part of the plant is being over or under watered. Rosemary can be a tricky one to grow.

Yes, rosemary does like it on the dry side. I would just cut the dead out. I take the hedgeclippers to mine sometimes.

My mom's had a rosemary bush in my backyard for some time now. It started out as a little plant, but it's gotten really large over time. It's a bit woody in the center. I'd think it was to support the extra weight of being so large. How big is your rosemary?

Hi Topper, welcome to the Stew.
Dooley in Arizona and I (in Texas) have huge Rosemary plants, just stick them in the ground and stand back. Last winter mine, a Tuscan Blue, had blue flowers on it from November thru April and bees buzzing around it the whole time too.

Sometimes the center of a Rosemary will get very woody and start to die off. Just cut the dead wood out and new stalks will take over soon. After a very, very wet first 6 months of this year I had to pull some of the lower stalks off the soggy ground and chop them off, now the plant is putting on new top growth. I would guess that mine is about 5' across and almost 5' tall this year.

Maybe rosemary grows better in some places then in others-I'm not sure.
Thats one herb I have trouble growing.
I have never been able to keep one over a year.
