I have a feeder just like yours Barb for our Goldfinches. Once your birds get used to the new feeder being around I'm sure they'll love it.

When I put up my first thistle feeder it tooks months for them to come. Yes, they do love cosmos and other flower seeds. Once they DO notice your feeder, they will be your friends for life. Cool

Nice feeder Barb. Do you have Gold Finches this time of year? I noticed a lot of Gold Finches during the summer here but they must go further south this time of year. I loved their happy chirping.

The bright golden yellow is the goldfinches breeding, and therefore summer, pplumage. In the fall to winter the males resemble the females in plumage, they molt to a duller grayish yellow.
They do move south in the winter, BUT, in my area I have then year round. The southern part of Canada has them (I dont know how close you are to the border Netty) And Glendan parts of the south that dont see them in summer, do in winter, like TEXAS. Smile Keep an eye out.

Really nice feeder.
I'll just bet that titmice, chicadees and wrens will also use it.
What an thoughtful birthday gift.

We've got gold finches year round here, and I had a feeder similar to yours (until the squirrels got at it, and I had to buy a different one with metal protection around the feeding holes). I've found that during the summer months the finches prefer thistle seed, but in the winter they eat sunflower hearts...so I've got a "squirrel-proof" feeder for the sunflower hearts, and I keep my fingers crossed about the squirrels! We've got a lot of red squirrels here, too, and they're really destructive.
