Hello I was watering my basil plant when I noticed that one of the stems looked funny. I broke it off and took a couple of pics. If any of you could tell me what you think it is and if it will harm me or my other plants I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

It is a indoor plant in a copper pot. I keep it over the sink in the window

There are many pests which can affect indoor basil plants Therushin. Here are some of them:- Aphids, whitefly, red root knot and nematodes. If grown outside leafhoppers, slugs and Japanese beetle can also do damage.

If I'm not sure what is affecting my indoors plants then I place a piece of double sided cellotape around one of the stalks of the plant and see what sticks to it.

I hope you find out what the problem is with your plant soon.

Kind of hard to tell, but it looks like a really BAD case of Scale...

Thanks eileen And Netty, I don't think anything is actually moving but I love that tape idea. I will remember that with the next creepy crawly problem I have.

I think Netty is right I googled scale and I think I am just going to huck that plant out. I have too many other plants that mean something to me. I don't want them to get it!

Hi

I hope that none of your other plants are affected. it is sad to lose plants.
Eileen that is a simple but ingenious plan of yours to find out who the culprits are.
