Hi,
I've just planted a row of beans in my new vegie patch, and have been a tad disapointed that about half of the plants have deformed leaves. See attached photo
I've been looking at the possibility of nutrient deficiency or fungus, but cant find anything.
Any ideas?

G'daai Dover,
I wonder if there has been a colont of aphids on the undersides of those crinkly leaves, or perhaps spittle bug.
I have seen similar deformaties here and every time it has been an insect or insects that have caused it. Sometimes small spiders curl the leaves up like that and use it for a "den".
It is such a delicate stage in the bean's development I am sure that you want to discover the cause as soon as possible.
If you discover the true cause, let us know.

One thing, and I know that it doesn't help now...but I have tried germinating beans in my greenhouse before planting them out in order to avoid mouse, bird or pest damage until they have at least 3 sets of leaves and a good, strong rootball. Perhaps it is an idea for next sowing season?

I honestly do not believe that it's nutrient deficience or a fungal infection as they cause leaf discolouration, quite often.
