very nice Sherry.
Although the RAs aren't as flashy as some others they have to be my favorite of all the butterflies because they are the most people friendly of them all. I like how they'll land on you if you stay still long enough.

We love this butterfly friend. We call him the "red admirable." There are places in my yard where they hang out all summer. Hubby gets a great kick out of it when I am weeding near them and they land on my rear. Great photos.

Is that what I have too. Mine looks lighter red. It's small. Maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches (4-6 cm)across.

The markings look the same but the color on yours on my computer look purple...so I am not sure. Unless the color looks like mine, I would say no. What color is it on your computer? Mine is black, orange and white and your butterfly is black, yellow and purple....we will wait for some other replys.

Wrennie,
Your butterfly is a Red Admiral. Colors on monitors and color quality of the camera vary so much that color sometimes is not the best way to ID them, red becomes more orange and black will sometimes show up as purple. You have to go by the markings and the RA is the only one with the red circular pattern on the black background.

Wow, you all take such great pictures. I am going to try and meet your high quality in nature this spring and summer. I just love the pictures that are shared. I have various moths (which I would have thought your RA was because of the fat body) maybe I'll have a rare find to share.
