Lovely photos of one of my favorite butterflies. Is that a special butterfly feeder?
The admiral visits very late in autumn, and likes to sit on half-rotten plums and drink fruit juice. Last year we had plenty because of a warm autumn, this year I saw one... They probably stopped in Denmark or even further south. I know I would have.

Red Admirals are such handsome butterflies.
Sadly we've had soooo much rain this year that there have been very few butterflies around.

Droopy....that is my Oriole feeder the butterfly is drinking from. He was sitting there quite a lot so I think he liked the sweet nectar....I had a couple other ones doing it too but I didn't have a camera available for them.

Beautiful pictures. Did you know that they are also attracted to human perspiration and will sometimes land on your shoulder because of it. And they are territorial, so if you see them in your yard they will be there for a several weeks, if they wander away during the summer they will make a return to your yard in the fall.
There were a couple of Red Admirals in my yard last spring too, I had never seen them before this year. And they did make a return this fall, I saw one as late as two weeks ago.

Gosh Toni, I will try to work out in the yard more often then, MAYBE I will attract some butterflies.
Are the Red Admiral butterflies the ony ones attracted to perspiration?

Wow. that butterflie has the body of a moth. I don't know anything about butterflies and appreciate seeing a picture with the name. I have so many flying moths or caterpillars until I should attempt to identify them. Maybe I will hang out with a camera and load some pics for a quick I.D. on the stew. lovely plants.

I see someone put my Red Admiral pictures over there but not my Monarchs...I don't know how to get that one over to that area...HELP ....thank you...I didn't even know you had an area and I hope I can find it next time...I am saving some very beautiful Monarch ones for a later date.Some of my favorites...

Sherry,
Even tho you posted the Monarch pictures and the Red Admiral pictures in the Members Gallery for the members to enjoy, the Red Admiral post grew into more of an informative post. One that now includes information on how to attract them to a garden, what they feed on and their seasonal habits, so therefore it was moved to the Butterfly/Moth forum.
The Butterfly/Moth forum is a sub-topic under the Wildlife in the Garden forum.
