I've finally made the "Welcome"-decoration. I use thuya and holly. The little penguin is a must, no Christmas without it. This year I put in a mouse for company:

Thanks, Biita. We can't grow mistletoe. It's real holly, the variegated kind. My mother has a nice bush and is always happy to share. I'd love to see yours when you're done. I'll make one for my next-door neighbour too.

okay,, i see,, i think maybe i can grow that up here, i have to check an see.

Do you know that plant,, okay how can i describe this,,, its called march wool an grows in the marshs,, i don't know if it grows down that way but its all over the artic. i had made one wreath an thought that would look really cool, right,, geeez they are like dandelions an all the little "wool" blew away,,lol. Live an learn. So i have to start over. I'll post when i do get it done, but i have started a pinecone tree an there i am using the marsh wool, island slav (reindeer moss) and rowen berries.

How lovely is the wreath.
I have several penguins here also.. I made some and the others were gifts......

I like penguins much.....They look like little people in tuxeodos.. Are they soft and huggable?
Did you ever hug one?

Would be a nice pet.

Thank you all, you're too kind. The base is a straw ring, and the greenery is easy to do.

I've never touched a penguin, but they are feathered )aren't they?), so I guess they feel pretty much like any other bird.

I bought the penguin on impulse 11 years ago, and put it on the wreath. Now my husband claims it won't be Christmas without it. I also made on for next door. My neighbour's wreath had birds this year. I'll sneak over and photograph it later.

Two of the young ladies from the stables invited themselves over for wreath making yesterday evening. One of them had made one before, the other had never done anything of the sort, and was very excited about the whole thing. I obtained their permission to show you what became of their five-hour-long session:

The cutting and binding of the thuja took hours for them, and I don't know how many times they rearranged the decor before they started glueing. We had fun, though, even if it was 01.30 before they were satisfied. That is sooo late for a sleepy-head like me. Laughing
