I miss the spring alreadey. It has been so hot in MS
lately. The temp has been in the 70's and 80's. The trees are bare, yet I want to fiddle in the dirt with flowers.
Nothing pleases me more than seeing things burst forth from the earth to life. I am greedy for the wonder of birth. I always have someone's adorable baby in my lap every chance that I get. I miss nurturing a newly planted plant.
It is the on set of the gardening blues. I search garden stew for gardening pictures. It is the only sunshine in my hybernating gardening heart. I am so happy to have the company of this site.
What is a quick fix for the gardening blues and am I the only one going through fall/winter withdrawal? Are we normal:)
I love flowers!!!! I have been enjoying the winter landscapes, but nothing beats your own dirty fingers.

Think of it as recharging your garden batteries, so you can burst forth with energy in spring. I've got the same feeling, and love the photos those with flowers post. My ground is now frozen, and I just have to enjoy the beauty of frozen landscape, find some craft or a book and wait.

Oh I think all we gardeners feel exactly the same. Winter is such a dreary time for us when we can't get out and do much at all in the garden.  I took a walk around mine yesterday and discovered that my spring crocus's are already about an inch out of the ground though!!!

Yes we are normal!! Yes we love to get our hands dirty!! Our passion is no differnt than someone who loves ski or swim. In summer people who ski have to go to man made tracks, in winter swimmers have to go to indoor pools,, garderners have to go indoors or take up something else that includes working with flowers or folidge. So yes i believe we are very normal.
I also believe that i live in the perfect place that makes me recharge that ol' battery whether i want to or not..little or no light, frozen earth, cold an blustery wind,,, yep thats natures way of saying okay now you have to sit an just relax, or go slow,,,because when i turn the lights back on, and thaw the earth,,,,then you can run, run, run.
And i do, do, do!!!!

Hiya Dirt2,
Well, the blues haven't set in just yet here...I'm still harvesting stuff in the veggie garden and there is more on the way.
I do miss the flowers though, they have all expired, sadly--so I'm already looking and thinking what I would like in the form od annuals next year.
It's also a time when I have to start getting changes ready for the upcoming year on my website.
One thing that helps with the blues when they do come are the various functions that our gardening organization have. For instance there will be a New Years' Get together and later on after that the annual meeting with snacks and things to drink.
These functions are good to alleviate the blues by chatting with the other allotmenteers. I can really get enthusiastic when I hear their plans.
The general meeting is when you turn in the order list for seeds, seed-potatoes, etc. So from that point on the feeling that the growing season is really getting closer.
The winter's shortest day (21 dec) is when I already begin to feel the beginning of the end of the darkness.

I guess I am the one not normal. I remember the spring and fall days of gardening fondly but I also look forward to the days of true winter when I can't get out in the garden.
I have Candles and soaps to make for family use and for gifts, yarn to make into socks, scarves, etc for gifts and I have approximately 20 books bought but not yet read and almost as many DVD's bought but not yet watched, being saved for winter days of knitting and watching.
I haven't received any seed catalogs, yet, but I do get e-newsletters from several plant suppliers and have quite a wish list started and even some already ordered for spring delivery.

I miss spring, summer and fall, already.

Toni, I hope you get to read your books, watch the DVD's , make your candles, etc. I hope Texas has one heck of a winter. I won't wish for the 79-80 ice storm or 1983, but I would be if we have a reasonable season called winter.

We have snow here also. But so far no winter blues. Those usually start to set in around end of January with me.
I have a few catalogs on their way I just can't wait to go thru. I also have a few plants I been attending to inside that keeps me busy. My Christmas cactus will be flowering soon. Its to be white so I'll post picts when it blooms.
Try to find a good book to read, spring will be just around the corner soon.

d2d, try buying an amaryllis that is in bud and watch it bloom, also force sone paperwhites, or buy a christmas cactus. hope your blues duissappear soon. sorry for the mis-spells, my keeboard got drowned and i am bot going back to town till wednesday.

I live in New Mexico and we just finished getting lots of snow over the weekend.
I was outside on Saturday, it was about 20 degrees at most, and looked at my frozen garden beds. I remembered how beautiful everything looked just a month ago, flowers alive and still blooming!!!
Most of the catnip is still green but so frozen that it bends over to the ground. The grass, ironically didn't really die out, yet.
I start getting antsy to work outside right after the new year. That's when I bring out the grow lights and start planning what I will start from seed.
It won't be long!!

I am still having fun with inside jobs..(Flowers)
MY Chreeping charlie is in bloom. my africian violets,amaryllis,guinea Imps Orange , my Orchids are going into bud.........MY shamrocks keep a good pace of blooms.........And I have 5 little christmas trees growing from seeds inside....
Enough to keep my attention...........Besides that , I go outdoors lots to ride.....Makes me tired enough to sleep......
