No it's a really pretty little bloom Pete.  The traps on the plant itself, however, look quite evil so I'm glad I'm not a fly!!

Wow, Eileen way to go.  I've tried a few of them, but was never succesful. I didn't even know they flowered. When I seen your flower I was surprised to learn it was from a venus fly trap.
How long have you had this plant? Can you give us any advise on how to keep one to last so it will flower? Now you have my curiosity up.

Eileen, what a beautiful bloom. Does it have a fragrance? Never realized the Venus Fly-trap bloomed either.

The bloom is very pretty. I assumed that a 'fly trap' wouldn't be much to look at, but it is indeed!

I didn't know they would bloom Eileen as I have never seen the blooms .I do love the white blooms.

Way to go, Eileen! Could you send another pic showing the whole plant, bloom,traps and all?
I don't know of another person that has ever had one bloom.
This must be really exciting for you.

No sooner said than done Sjoerd!!
The plant is actually quite small but the flower stalk is approx 18" tall.
Toni - I don't know if it has a scent or not at the moment as Ian and I have bad head colds and can't smell anything at all just now.  I'll let you know though as there are another 9 flowers to open.
Petunia - the only thing I do with the VFT is to put rain water into the little tray that it sits in as it's actually a bog plant so likes to be wet. I've kept it indoors as it's way too cold outside for it to survive in the garden. Other than that I just allow it to trap midges and other insects that alight in the traps. I was told that one of these plants only needs about four insects a year to survive.

COR Eileen!--18", that's some stem! 
What a quick responce. It really gives a good perspective. Do you think that the stems are normally so high?, or would it be so tall because of the diminished light quality?
Some years I have a lot of trouble with little black flies that live on and in the soil of the house plants, perhaps a couple of these flytraps would keep their numbers down.
Anyway, thanks for showing the whole plant.

Well dang, that is a surprise to me too!! I've never had a VFT, but I just thought it was like the bottom of the whole plant pic you posted,, you know the little green traps is all.

The flower stalk on my plant seems to be an average height or so I've ben told Sjoerd. It sits on my dining room table where it gets lots of light through the patio doors. Here's a website that seems to answer lots of questions about VFT's.

Mmmmm ... after reading about the plant flowering maybe I shouldn't have let mine bloom as it seems to weaken the plant.  I'll wait and see what happens now though as the flowers are very pretty.

Keep your stuffy nose back Eileen, the flower may be to trap and eat humans. No, just a very little joke LOL. ^-^ The close up of the flower is great. I bet my insects would beat up a Venus Fly Trap plant. Way to go!

Congratulations on your flowering fly trap, eileen. The blooms are lovely, and so big, too, for such a little plant. I've seen one blooming before. My eldest daughter's fairly good at growing similar plants. She's also very good at catching flies for them. Yuk. Hers wasn't as big or tall as yours, though.
