|
I've got some orchids that I mostly neglect. They live in the window sill, except in summer, when they live on the veranda for the neighbour to neglect while we are away.
The yellow and the spotted Phalaenopsis are my husband's, the pink was a gift for my 40th birthday. It starts blooming in August, and is still at it:
The Zygopetalum usually gives me several flowers on a stem, but suddenly decided to give only one, and it's big too:

Thanks all. Netty, my mother thought so too, until she managed not to pamper them too much.
Eileen, they are the easiest house plants I've ever had, bar catcti.

I got mine for christmas last yr.
i like the pink ones an that last one is awesome. actually i like them all...lol.

Thank you Biita. I've got a Cambria and a Dendrobium starting soon too. They must have liked the cold, wet summer stay outside.

Pretty spectacular stuff, Droopy. They are really performing well for you aren't they? I really like the redish-pinkish one and that unusual monster at the bottom. It looks huge. I don't think that I have ever seen one like him.
I hope that you will show more pictures of these and the coming ones as they progress...
Thanks for the pics

Ahhhh! They're real beauties, Droopy!
I LOVE orchids, several of mine are blooming now, too.
I guess that's one of the (many) things I like about them,
many of them are winter flowering, which helps to tide me over.

I can't handle plants inside, my thumb is far too brown. But it is nice to be able to see different plants here. Thanks for sharing. I always believed that orchids had to be pampered. I like the odd purple one. Its different

Thank you all. I do nothing special with them. When the whitish-grey roots get green tips, I fertilize them and increase the amount of water given, just a little. I put them outside during "summer", and put them back in when I remember them, sometime during early autumn. Then I just leave them to it, and suddenly they bloom. The Zygopetalum smells too.

Gorgeous. If you don't mind I am going to save your pix and make a stained glass orchid pattern from them. Those pinks!! That last one is freakishly beautiful.

I always thought they needed a bit of pampering too! I think you've managed to talk me into trying Orchids again!
Oh Bethie - can't wait to see your next masterpiece!

Thank you, all. I'm amazed every time they start blooming, with the care they're not given.

Bethie, I'm honoured. You may pinch whatever you like as long as you keep posting photos of your lovely work.
