We've had a lot of rain lately and it's been warmer than normal here also. This ugly thing is growing next to the driveway in the pinestraw. It's full of water, too. I laid a quarter on the gound next to it. A quarter is about the size of the end of a ladies thumb. At least this lady's.
Yikes!!

That is so cool! I've never seen fungi like that. If I had one, I'd probably protect it with my life. The shape reminds me of a sunflower made of copper.

Having only ever seen photos of garden beauty for so long Bethie it is refreshing to see the ugly side (to my eyes at least) of the garden too. But having said that I think you'll understand that I don't add the photo to the Pic of the Month contenders. Having that on the home page may scare off everyone!

Oh I love it!!! It looks like a deep, black pood of water in the centre (in miniature of course) with decorated edges. Fungi fascinate me and always have. I think some things can be so unattractive that they become beautiful in their own right.

It looks pretty scary to me! It's huge! Wow, I've never seen anything like that before.

Its different Bethie for sure. I'll also say that I have never seen one like it before.

Wow that is one ugly (sorry) fungi. Does look kinda like a sunflower, and ugly one. I'm disappointed that Frank won't be including it in the Pic of the Month
