The baby blanket is almost done. I need to crochet around it, give it a wash and an iron, but I have no more yarn. The recipe said 300 grams, I've used 400. It's knitted in double two-thread baby alpaca yarn, and is very light-weight and soft. It measures about 1 x 1 meter, something like 3.3 x 3.3 feet. Here is what it looks like:
The baby blanket even looks[/i ]soft Droopy. I love the pattern on it - it could almost be a christening robe as it looks so delicate and intricate. Really beautiful. How long has it taken you to make?
Thank you eileen, I think I've knitted on it for a couple of months. I dare not count hours, it would probably scare me!
I would have taken me a couple of YEARS Droopy and it certainly wouldn't be anywhere as lovely as yours.
Rubbish, Eileen, the instructions were easy to follow. The cards you make show that you've got nimble fingers. I checked the time I used. A month and a half, with a little bit of knitting every day, and some days a few hours of knitting. I hope she's not expecting twins.
Droopy, the blanket is so pretty. And I know it will feel so good to the little one that gets to snuggle in it Gaylyn
Droopy, it's beautiful. I know things like that take time. The quilt that I made took months to finish. Now, I have another one to start. I can crochet but have never been able to knit and keep the stitches even. dooley
That's just stunningly beautiful. And you made it from alpaca? Even better. Alpaca is my favorite fiber to spin, especially the suri alpaca, so unbelivevably soft!!! We have several alpaca farms around here but they send all their lovely fiber out to be processed *grump*. Might have to have a go at seeing if I can still crochet next year *Mary adds another thing to her growing list of new-years things-to-do*
That is so beautiful, droopy. You do such beautiful work. That will be one happy baby when he/she is all snug an cuddly in the blanket. Great job, well done!!
Thank you all for very kind words. I was quite pleased with myself, to be honest. Your quilts are more time consuming than knitted projects. I could never make them, I'm too impatient. Evenness comes with practice. I nearly ended up just cuddling the yarn, but that wouldn't do at all. I've knitted in alpaca for about a year now, and I feel I'll have problems with going back to wool. It feels so prickly compared to the alpaca. The only drawback is the price of alpaca yarn. I've got spinning on my "want-to"-list.
Thank you. I like the feel of it so much, I'm wondering if I might knit one for myself. Three times as big... I must be mad!
