Some weeks ago Biita, you (I think it was) asked to see my mum's handycraft work. Well with all the business of "pre-christmas"... I sorta forgot it. 'scuse me. Anyway... here are two pictures which shows it. They aren't really fancy like many that you see, but it keeps her busy. chuckle. No, I really like them and am amazed at her handwork which you can see a bit on the close-up. It's so intricate.

Sjoerd, don't know what that pattern is called other places but over here it is Cathedral Window.
I have only made a small piece many years ago because I just didn't have the patience then to sit and hand stitch enough of those 'windows' to make a full size quilt.
She has made a beautiful quilt and yes that one did keep her busy.....for a long time

Hi Toni,
It sure did keep her busy for a long time....nine months! Ha ha ha.I believe this was the first one she made.
She doesn't make any other pattern. She has made them for family and she has sold a few as well.
I like this, but I like other patterns that I have seen...with more colour.
My partner and I were strolling down the street of Rabat (morocco) a fewe years ago and off to the side in a little street we came upon a huge wooden sign that said, "American Quilt Exibition" (in english and in arabic). It was purely by chance that we stumbled upon it...in such an out-of-the -way place.
Well, we thought that we'd have a look inside and see what it was like. There were about 12-15 quilts hanging displayed on the walls. It was a wonder to behold, especially there.
There's a lady in our gardening club doing it now too.

My, that is such a lovely quilt! I'm awed at the amount of work she's put into it. If I should work on the same project for nine months, it would probably end up being used for tinder. No patience.

Wow Wow Wow,, that is absolutely beautiful. Your mother is very talented. I give anyone major kudo's for the patience that it takes to make these blankets. Nine months,,, hola!! well it has paid off, because this is just stunning. Thank you Sjoerd for the pics.
When i lived in America in Pennsylvania, i used to go to alot of fairs, that usually took a half day to get to. The Pennsylvania Dutch are known for their quits, and they are just beautiful. I would just look an be in awe of how much time went into these quilts.

OO 00 I love that quilt Sjoerd !!! It looks like lots of little jewels and the edging is lovely.  How I wish I could tackle something like that but I just know I'd make a start and then get fed-up after a few weeks.

I know zero about quilting but even I can appreciate that must have taken a LOT of work. Looks fantastic.

I know what you mean Frank, I just stand back and scratch my head in wonder. Oh well she gets enormous pleasure from it.
I have enormouis patience too, but I don't know if I'd have THAT much --chuckle.

I've done a square like that but I would not attempt a whole quilt of it. It's beautiful. We had quilts at our county fairs that were works of art like this one. dooley

That was an interesting website. The Amish do some nice work. There are countless patterns that one can choose from, aren't there? I looked at them all. Attractive things. Thanks for the link.

I agree it is cathedral window in the USA......
Better watch your dresses when mom is around.. Ours take anything they can lay hands on, for scraps.
My neighbor gets $500. for each one she makes.

It is brilliant. How long did she take to do that? She has quite an eye for details. It is made so neatly. Really lovely stuff. You should show us more of her works whenever possible.
