You can PM someone by clicking on PM under a post they have made or go to their profile and PM them from there where it says "Send me a private message".
You send it, when they have read it, a copy of it appears in your Sent box.
When you receive a PM a notice will arrive in your inbox just like the notices of posts to topics you have responded to. Also, if you log onto the forum before you receive the PM notice in your inbox, you will receive a notice that a PM is waiting for you. At that point you will need to read the PM before you can go to the rest of the forum.
